A Den Report From Webelos 2

We are continuing to get to know various Boy Scout troops for our cross-over. This past month we camped with Troop 228 at Mohigan as part of their annual Halloween party. This camping event included many other Boy Scout and Girl Scouts troops. The food that the Troop 228 boy scouts cooked was absolutely delicious! Chicken paprikash, beef stew, chicken pot pies, cake... all cooked dutch-oven style under hot coals.

We had a torch-lit night hike to an 1800's cemetery that had only children who had died before the age of 12 years. Boys and girls from the troops shared ghost stories around a campfire by this cemetery. The evening wrapped up with a Halloween costume party. This was a very enjoyable and memorable camp trip for us!

We also finished the Communicator Activity Pin. At the 2nd den meeting, the boys made a simple Telegraph Set to practice morse code. Our main focus now is to complete the requirements for the Arrow of Light in time for the February Blue & Gold Banquet. The boys need to know and understand all sorts of stuff about Boy Scouts; the Boy Scout Oath, Law, Slogan, visiting troop meetings, etc.

We also participated in the Berea Yard Charge that took place on November 14. The boys worked hard raking leaves.

It was nice to observe how the boys have grown up from being Tigers more interested in jumping in leaf piles to Webelos where they are actually raking without complaining!

Oh well, our journey is almost over.
